Police Investigate the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: A member of the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith (AKKBB), Agus Tri Siswowiharjo, was investigated by the Jakarta Regional Police Office yesterday. He is a witness to slandering the good name of supporter Manarman of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI). “I was asked to explain about permission for the demonstration on June 1st,” said Agus Tri, in Jakarta yesterday.


During the examination which lasted for three hours starting at 2pm, he explained that permission was given May 28th, and it was suggested to cancel the demonstration. AKKBB submitted the permission again on May 31st but the police still asked them to cancel it.


The police then said there would be many activikties on June 1st, including Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia protesting the fuel price increases. “But what I know is , Hizbut Tahrir always had was peaceful ,” said Tri Agus.


The police did not mention that FPI that would come as far as the National Monument. The Alliance, then decided to demonstrate at the HI traffic circle by gathering first at the National Monument.


Commander of Laskar Islam reported the Alliance on Tuesday early this month disgraced their good name, libeling, and violating the emergency regulation.


According to the director for general investigation and criminal actions, Carlo Briz Tewu, the police called three activists: from the Jakarta Legal Aid Institution, Febi Yonesta; the alliance's coordinator for demonstrations, Anick H. Tohari and Agus Tri. “Out of these three, one has fulfilled our invitation,” said Carlo.
